Every ear-care appointment includes a professional assessment. If wax removal is not carried out, the £25 examination / triage fee is payable, even if your ears are clear. When wax removal is carried out, the total fee is £55, including the assessment.
Understanding the triage fee
More than a quick look
It is understandable to think that a brief ear examination is a simple check. For us, it is a clinical appointment: we use our training and experience to assess your ears, explain what we find and advise you on the most appropriate next step.
Wax is not always the cause of blocked ears or changes in hearing. The assessment helps us decide whether wax removal is needed and whether it is safe to proceed. If we identify a concern that needs further attention, we will explain this and advise you about appropriate care or referral.
What does the £25 fee cover?
- Your reserved clinical appointment time.
- An ear examination using appropriate equipment.
- Professional judgement about whether wax removal is appropriate.
- An explanation of our findings, advice and any recommended next steps.
The fee reflects the care and expertise provided during your appointment, whether or not wax removal is needed. An ear examination is a paid clinical service, including when no wax is found.
What will I pay at an ear-care appointment?
- Wax removal carried out: £55 in total for one or both ears, including the assessment.
- Wax removal not carried out: £25 for the examination, explanation and advice.
